The grounded DC photovoltaic connection is bonded to ground within the inverter through the ground fault detection and
interruptcircuit(GFDI)andshouldnotbebondedatanyotherpointinthesystem.TheungroundedDCconnectionmustnever
begroundedatanytime.
ACandDC(PV)Connections:
ThePVI6500‐7500invertersareequippedwithcoveredholesandKOsfor conduitfittingsthatarecode‐compliantforusewith
severalsizesofrigidandflexiblemetallicornon‐metallicconduit.Allconduitandwiringinstallationisdoneinthewiringbox.
Thisdesignallows installationand wiringof
theinvertertobedonewithoutopeningthemain inverter enclosure which must
neverbeopened.AC&DCterminalsallowfor#10to#6AWGcopperconductors.
LightningandSurgeProtection:
The inverter is designed with certain protections against voltage surges with certification to UL1741/IEEE1547 and
CSA22.2#107.1(includingANSI/IEEE62.41/62.42).Inareasoffrequentlightningstormsorwhennoprimarylightningprotection
systemisused(airterminals),additionalsurgeprotectiononDCandACsideandsolidgroundingprovisionsareimportantfor
bestprotectionagainstutilityvoltagetransientsandsurgescreatedbyindirectlightningstrikes.
TheinstallationofalightningarresterorotherULlistedsurgearresterofthecorrectspecificationisrecommendedonboththe
DCandACsidesofinverter.Theycanbeinstalledontheoutsideofthewiring
boxorotherlocationsinthesystemandwired
using the manufacturer's directions.When coordinated with the Surge Protection Device, lightning arrestors give important
addedprotectionfromdirectlightningstrikesandresultingsurges.Makesureto checkthelightningprotectionsystemofthe
buildingandperformanynecessaryupgradebeforethePVsystemisinstalled.Asolidlightningprotectionschemeisespecially
important forareasproneto thunderstormsandpossiblenearby lightningstrikes.Althoughtheseaddedprecautionswill not
guaranteethattherewillbenodamagefromlightning,theycanhelppreventorlimitpotentialdamage.
GroundingElectrodeConductor:
AswithallPVsystems,aGroundingElectrodeConductormustbeinstalledpercode.Thisconductorshouldbesizedaccording
to these code requirements. This conductorshould be terminated on the labeled ground point located at the bottom of the
wiringboxwheretheDCandACequipmentgroundconductorsalso
areterminated.
ACVoltage:
ThePVI6500‐7500invertersare240VACgridconnecteddevices.Theyarealsosuitablefor208Vand277VACgrid‐connected
use.Forexample,connectionbetweentwophasesofa208VAC,3‐phaseserviceorconnectionbetweenonephaseandneutral
ofa277VACservice(whereacceptable
bycode).Nounit(PVI6500or7500)canbeusedwitha120VACservice.Theunitsare
factory pre‐set to auto‐detect 277VAC, 240VAC or 208VAC when connected with a neutral.They can also be configured for
either240or208VACwithoutaneutralatthe
factoryorbyaqualifiedinstaller.Usewith277VACmustalwaysuseaneutralas
theneutralisusedasacurrentcarryingconductor.
WARNING:TheinvertershouldnotbeopenedatanytimeunlessauthorizedbySolectria.Theunitissealedat
thefactoryanditsULlistingwill
nolongerbevalidandthewarrantywillbevoidifopenedortamperedwithin
anyway.
MultipleUnits:
MultiplePVI6500‐7500unitscanbeusedatthesamelocationaslongasallelectricalcodes,localbuildingcodesandareautility
guidelinesarefollowed.Ifmultipleunitsareused,eachinvertermusthaveitsowndedicatedACovercurrentprotectiondevice,
andPVstringscannotbewired
tomultipleinverters.
